Z codes weeks of gestation

Tammy Posted Tue 01st of December, 2015 09:30:06 AM

patient came in 8weeks post partum with hemorrhoids.

Provider dx: O22.40 Our system is giving us an error because it requires the Z code but the patient is not pregnant.

Is this the correct code to use? I think it should be hemmorids (nothing to do w/ pregnancy) and a code for the postpartum? please let me know.

Thanks for query,

O22.40 (Hemorrhoids in pregnancy, unspecified trimester) is not a valid code for this scenario. In this case, we will use only code for hemorrhoids, not for postpartum, because postpartum period beginning immediately after the birth of a child and extending for about six weeks. Less frequently used are the terms puerperium or puerperal period.
