Wound Washout and reclosure

Nicole Posted Thu 26th of October, 2017 16:23:28 PM
The doctor reopened previous wound from Laminectomy done 5 months prior. There did appear to be a clear type of seroma. The wound was pulse irrigated. A Valsalva was performed. Duragen was placed over the thecal sac. A 19 Blake drain was placed. Is there anything else that can be billed for the above procedure besides the 97597?

Appropriate code for Wound Washout and reclosure of seroma would be 10140.

NOTE: If incision was not performed, then bill for an appropriate level of E/M service instead of wound washout procedure, as it would be considered a part of E/M service.
