Wound wash out and re-closure

Nicole Posted Mon 15th of October, 2018 23:01:20 PM
Patient had a lumbar fusion about two months prior. She did have issues with blisters and wound drainage but there were no overt signs of infection. The patient's right sided incision did have a small draining blister that was very superficial and attached. The incision was reopened, the blister was circumferentially dissected and removed. Antibiotic and pulsed irrigation was used and lavaged with approximately 6 L antibiotic-impregnated saline. The procedure performed is listed as Wound washout and reclosure. Would this be 22830, 97597 or just 97597?

Hi,

As per the documentation code 22830 shouldn't be used as exploration of the spinal fusion is not done during this scenario. Code 97597 is the appropriate to be used.

Thanks.
