Which code would I use for alternative diversion 50820 or 50727

Nancy Posted Thu 28th of February, 2019 10:58:15 AM
Functioning ileal conduit, status post brachytherapy and subsequent cystoprostatectomy for adenocarcinoma of bladder, non-prostatic origin. continues to express significant disappointment with the conduit, and remains strongly motivated to consider options for alternative diversion. The ileal conduit takedown would involve use of the conduit for extension to the dome of an ileal neobladder, or could be attached to the lower lateral aspect of a continent right colon urinary pouch. I am thinking revision 50727

Hi Nancy,

As per the limited information provided above and my understanding, if taking down of ureteroileal conduit for urinary undiversion with reimplantation of the ureter into the neobladder or colon urinary pouch was performed, then CPT code 50830 (Urinary undiversion (eg, taking down of ureteroileal conduit, ureterosigmoidostomy or ureteroenterostomy with ureteroureterostomy or ureteroneocystostomy) is the appropriate code that can be billed. You may also further match your documentation with the given code. Feel free to ask for any further query. Thank you.
