What would the return to OR modifer be for anesthesia charges?

Kathy k Posted Wed 27th of April, 2016 14:54:59 PM
I have a Medicare patient who required surgery for a prosthetic hip dislocation. On the same day the patient was taken back to the OR for the same diagnosis & repeat of the prior surgery due to the prosthetic hip dislocating again. This repeat surgery was done by the same surgeon on the same day (2 hours apart), but had a different Anesthesiologist. What would be the correct modifier to use for a return to OR with a different Anesthesiologist?

Hi Kathy, We will use modifier 78 and AA, as per the documentation above. Thank you.
