Kimberly Posted Mon 09th of February, 2015 17:10:54 PM

patient had redundant skin and subcutaneous tissue which was not healing correctly. dr made an elliptical incision incorporating the redundant skin and subcutaneous tissue which was non healing on lateral side of amputation site. this was excised down through the muscle using the plasma peak device, creating adequate hempstatis skin and sub-q tissue was closed with prolene creating a new healing surface I was thinking of billing a revision with use of modifier for reduced service but not sure

You should use debridement code 11042, Debridement, subcutaneous tissue (includes epidermis and dermis, if performed); first 20 sq cm or less. Bill this code with modifier 78, Unplanned Return to the Operating/Procedure Room by the Same Physician or Other Qualified Health Care Professional Following Initial Procedure for a Related Procedure During the Postoperative Period.
