Wasted pump infusion meds

Lori Posted Thu 18th of December, 2014 13:23:57 PM

Can we bill for pump meds that were ordered and not used due to the patient changing providers? Using the JW modifier?

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately you would be unable to bill for this. You would use the JW modifier (Drug amount discarded/not administered to any patient) because there was a drug surplus and it has been discarded by a healthcare professional. In this scenario you ordered the drug but never used any of it on any patient so you would be unable to bill for it. Hope this helps.
