video capsule delivery with egd

Shamae Posted Thu 25th of September, 2014 11:42:59 AM

Is there any way to bill for a capsule placement by doing a EGD in a ASC and to be reimbursement? The purpose of the EGD would be soley for the placement of the capsule, due to patient unable to swallow capsule for what ever reason. And if there is, what would be the correct coding?

Thanks for your question. You are able to bill for an EGD and a capsule together. When the pill cam is used to view the esophagus only bill 91111; Gastrointestinal tract imaging, intraluminal (eg, capsule endoscopy), esophagus with interpretation and report and if it is viewing through the ileum bill 91110; Gastrointestinal tract imaging, intraluminal (eg, capsule endoscopy), esophagus through ileum, with interpretation and report . You would also bill 43235; Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, flexible, transoral; diagnostic, including collection of specimen(s) by brushing or washing, when performed (separate procedure). Append a modifier -52 to the pill cam for reduced services . Hope this helps!
