Vesicovaginal Fistula

Cheryl Posted Wed 24th of February, 2016 16:00:37 PM

My surgeon did a cystoscopy and used a Bugbee electrode via the cystoscope to cauterize two fistulas in the bladder. He then inserted a long needle through the cystoscope and injected the fistulas with a fibrin glue. What code would be best for this procedure?

Since there is no specific laparoscopic CPT Code for repair of a vesicovaginal fistula, and since most of the surgery for this procedure is devoted to the bladder repair, you should report 51999 (Unlisted laparoscopy procedure, bladder) for the cauterization of the vesicovaginal fistula by Bugbee electrode and repair by fibrin glue..
