Ventricular tap to obtain a CSF specimen

Deborah h Posted Sun 11th of October, 2015 23:19:04 PM

How would you code a ventricular tap done with a needle through a previous burr hole to withdraw CSF for a specimen on someone over 2 years old? Please remember that cpt codes 61000 and 61001 have age restriction; and can’t be used for someone over 2 years old.

CPT 61020 is appropriate to bill for this scenario.
