MY PHYSICIAN STENT THE LEFT COMMON ILIAC AN AND THE EXTERNAL ILIAC . WOULD THE PRIMARY CODES BY 37238 AND 37239 OR IS IT CONSIDERED THE SAME VESSEL. ONLY 37238?

Hi Lisa,

 

You would only code CPT code 37238. Common Iliac is a first order vessel whereas exterior iliac is a second order vessel from the same vascular family. If vessels are from the same vascular family, only the farthest one from the same family is taken. In your case as per the family vascular tree, exterior iliac is the farthest in the family where the procedure has been performed. Therefore, CPT code 37328 would be the appropriate CPT code.
