Vasospasm Constriction and Thrombectomy

Leorah Posted Fri 18th of January, 2019 09:08:22 AM
Our patient was seen and first the vasospasm of the vessel was treated (61650) and then the thrombectomy (61645) in the same vessel was treated. Are we able to then code the 61650 and the 61645 if the 61650 occurred first? Thanks

Hi Leorah,

Generally, both codes cannot be billed together. However, if your documentation can support the medical necessity of performing both the procedures, you can bill both codes together. Ensure you append modifier 59 with CPT code 61650 to bypass the bundling edits.

Hope, provided information would be helpful.
