V67.09

SuperCoder Posted Thu 05th of September, 2013 12:17:35 PM

The hospital is using V67.09 as the primary diagnosis for a G0105 and 2ndary code V12.72 or V10.05. I am using the V12.72 or the V10.05 as the primary code. Can you tell me which is correct? Thanks

Codes V12.72 or the V10.05 as the primary codes are the correct ones.

If I have to go head to head with the hospital I need some proof. Sorry for the bother. We have been through this before and they have started up again.

Having performed deeper research it turns out that in 2009 specific guidance provided by National Government Services (NGS), a Medicare contractor, made this change and it is now in the AHA Coding Clinic guidance:

Principal Dx: V67.09
Secondary Dx: V10.05 or V12.72 as appropriate.

This is according to NGS' LCD revision effective Oct. 1, 2009. AHA Coding Clinic is the official source for ICD-9 guidance and should be followed unless otherwise specified by your FI/MAC or CMS. Thank you.
