V-code for E/M after surgery

Teresa Posted Mon 20th of October, 2014 15:32:56 PM

What would be the proper V-code when a patient returns to the office in follow up for a surgical procedure which has a 90 day global? This is for Urology.

The diagnosis V67.00 (follow-up examination following unspecified surgery)would be used for post surgical visits.

Hope this helps.

What about using V58.76? or V67.09. When would you use V45.89?

You are correct the code V58.76 (Aftercare following surgery on the genitourinary system not elsewhere classified-conditions classifiable to 580-629) would be more appropriate if it meets the conditions mentioned in the code description.

You would not use V67.09 (follow-up examination following other surgery)as the V58.76 shows greater specificity.

V45.89 is used for other postsurgical status presence of neuropacemaker or other electronic device and would probably not be used in urology coding.

Hope this helps.
