My Dr. did a surgery doing urethrolysis and I want to know if it's billable. Using Metzenbaum scissors transvaginal urethrolysis was performed as the patients previous sling procedure was taken down and the urethra was freed from surrounding scar tissue.Once urethrolysis was complete and the urethra was mobile, the retropubic sling was performed. (At one time the patient did have a prior sling) Please advise.

During performing retro-pubic sling procedure, if you are just performing adhesion lysis at the site of urethra then do not bill it separately. Append modifier 22 (increased procedural services) with the primary procedure. Do not forget to attached the operative report with the claim form to support your excessive work during the procedure.
