Urology/Renal Fossa

Cherie Posted Mon 23rd of March, 2015 06:58:04 AM

My doctor did a removal of the right renal fossa status post right nephrectomy in July of 2014 w/ biopsy proven recurrent renal cell cancer in the fossa. Would I use CPT 50225? Thanks for the help!

If removal of fossa was because of complication of nephrectomy, then only 50225 will be coded. 50225 says- Nephrectomy; complicated because of previous surgery on same kidney. Otherwise you can bill CPT code 50240 for removal of the right renal fossa.
