Urology/Interstim Generator

Cherie Posted Mon 10th of August, 2015 06:23:24 AM

My Doctor replaced two batteries in the Interstim generator. He wants to code it as 64590 x 2, as he replaced the battery on each side. Are we able to code it times 2 or just as 64590 only. He didn't replace the generator just the batteries. Please advise. Thank you

There is no such code for Battery replacement only. You should use CPT code 64590. Although the MUE of this code is 1. But you can bill 2 units of it, if your documentation supports that replacement was done on both sides and there are 2 different generator on both sides.
