Urology/Collins Knife

Cherie Posted Fri 08th of April, 2016 06:52:21 AM
My Doctor did a nephrectomy, but before he started it (at the same session) he excised the ureteral orifice with a Collins knife. Would I use 52234 or 52214, 52276. Please advise. Thanks.

Thanks for the Query The codes 52234 and 52214 seems inappropriate as both codes appropriate for Cystourethroscopy, with fulguration but as per the scenario described here physician had excised the ureteral orifice with a Collins knife. Please specify that the provider made a new incision for nephrectomy or performed the nephrectomy with the same incision of excision of ureteral orifice and also specify the reason of ureteral orifice excision. As knife is used to perform the incision in the ureteral orifice or bladder neck,CPT code 52276 seems more appropriate.
