Urology/59 modifier

Cherie Posted Tue 13th of January, 2015 08:16:27 AM

We have been coding the prostate biopsy with a 59 modifier on the 76872 code. With the new "X" modifiers, which one am I to use in place of the 59 modifier. We bill like this. 55700, 76942, and 76872/59. Please advise. Thank you!

Use modifier XU “Unusual Non-Overlapping Service, The use of a service that is distinct because it does not overlap usual components of the main service” with 76872.

Thanks !!
