Urology - 52240 question

Maria Posted Tue 26th of August, 2014 12:18:56 PM

My doctor had to take the same patient back to OR over the weekend for control of bleeding and further transurethral resection of a large bladder tumor. He had surgery only three days prior. Is the code still 52240? If not, what other code should I use? Please help. Thanks

For a transuretheral resection of a large bladder tumor the 52440 (Cystourethroscopy, with fulguration (including cryosurgery or laser surgery) and/or resection of; LARGE bladder tumor(s) would be the correct code. There are no global days on a transuretheral resection of a bladder turor(s) so the prior surgery would not effect the billing of another resection.

Hope this helps.
