Urgent Care--New vs Established Patient

Charlene Posted Mon 23rd of September, 2019 10:55:39 AM
We are adding an urgent care office into our company. Is the new patient vs established patient rule pertinent in the urgent care place of service (20) setting? Is it like the emergency room where new vs established isn't a factor?

Hi,

To code and bill E/M services in the urgent care setting, you will use the Office or Other Outpatient E/M Level codes. The CPT code ranges for these E/M Levels are: 99201-99205 for new patients and 99211-99215 for established patients.

Hope this helps!
