Ureteral stent insertion via ileal conduit

Cheryl Posted Fri 06th of December, 2019 12:09:29 PM
The urologist placed a ureteral stent via the patients ileal conduit. A cystoscope was inserted through the conduit, a guidewire was advanced under fluro guidance, the cystoscope removed and a ureteral stent was placed in the right ureter. What CPT code would be best used?

Hello Cheryl,

Thank you for your question.

You should report CPT® code 52332 (Cystourethroscopy, with insertion of indwelling ureteral stent (eg, Gibbons or double-J type)) for placement of a ureteral stent via the patient's ileal conduit.

Note: For coding purposes, an ileal conduit and neobladder is considered the urinary bladder.

Hope this helps.
