Upper Endoscopy aborted due to aspiration of liquids

Gina Posted Mon 19th of March, 2012 20:44:36 PM

My doctor attempted to perform an EGD for heartburn, and odynophagia. He made it to the middle third of the esophagus, and had to abort due to aspiration of liquids. Would I code aspiration as primary, 507.0, or 787.1? Would I also use modifier 52, or 53? thanks

For Outpatient setting use 74 modifier cos its a discontinued Px due to aspiration of liquids, Use 787.1 as the primary Dx and also V64.3
