Unilateral tonsillectomy

Natalie Posted Mon 01st of July, 2013 17:10:06 PM

If a surgeon only removes one side of the tonsils, should I bill the regular CPT code for a tonsillectomy and add a modifier -52?

Correct approach.append modifier 52 (reduced services) to the appropriate CPT code when performed unilaterally (eg, unilateral tonsillectomy)
