Ultrasound guided injections

Peter Posted Wed 13th of March, 2013 16:26:53 PM

We bill out ultrasound guidance "76942" on all of our injections. I am finding that medicare is not paying for the injection instead that are only paying for the US. I have found some where they said that medicare is no longer paying for ultrasound guidance. Is this true?

CPT® Assistant (March 2011) clarifies that to report 76942, the ultrasound guidance doesn't have to guide the needle's insertion through the skin, "but the imaging must be used to guide the needle placement" to report the code.
