TWIN PREGNANCY, PROM AND DELIVERY WITH ONE RETAINED

Ann Posted Thu 10th of October, 2019 17:21:25 PM
Patient presents at 22 weeks with di/di twin gestation, premature rupture of membranes. She spontaneously delivered Twin A, liveborn- with demise shortly after birth- and retained Twin B. I cannot find an ICD10 code other than continuing pregnancy after IUFD (O31.22X1) or spontaneous abortion (O31.12X1). Should I use "other complication specific to multiple gestation" (O31.8X21) ?

Hello Ann,

Thank you for your question.

As per the above provided documentation, the appropriate ICD-10-CM codes will be:

O42.912 -Preterm premature rupture of membranes, unspecified as to length of time between rupture and onset of labor, second trimester

O31.12X1 -Continuing pregnancy after spontaneous abortion of one fetus or more, second trimester, fetus 1

Note: ICD-10 code O31.22X1 will not be reported since, Twin A, was a liveborn, with demise shortly after birth. So, it was not an intrauterine death.

Hope that helps!

Thanks
