Transcranial Doppler Complete Intracranial

Leorah Posted Tue 14th of January, 2020 05:35:13 AM
Our doctors recently used a Transcranial Doppler (TCD) to measure the cerebral blood flow velocity (CBF-V) in the major intracranial arteries. I coded CPT 93886 (26). Medicare responded that this service is not a Medicare eligible service. In the past we have been paid by Medicare for these service. Has there been a change with this code? Thanks for your help

Hello Leorah,

Thank you for your question.

As per CMS fee schedule for Q1, 2020, status of CPT® code 93886 is “A” which means it is an Active code. Codes which are not payable by Medicare are designated with status code “N” which means not covered by Medicare.

CPT® code 93886 does not status “N” in MPFS. Hence, it is a covered code as per Medicare. Also, there is no such guideline which indicates that CPT® code 93886 is not a Medicare eligible code.

We request you to forward EOB (Explanation of benefit) document, provided to you by the payer. We’ll review the document and let you know the possible reason of denial.

You may forward the same on customerservice@supercoder.com

Hope that helps!

Thanks
