Thyroid Nodule Excision

Camille Posted Thu 20th of February, 2020 16:59:40 PM
Procedure: Excision Thyroid Nodule. The suspicious thyroid nodule was then excised with bipolar cautery and the capsule was then oversewn with a 4-0 chromic suture. The strap muscles were then reapproximated with interrupted 3-0 Vicryl suture. The platysmal layer was reapproximated with interrupted 3-0 Vicryl suture and the skin was closed...QUESTION: There is a code for excision of cyst or adenoma of thyroid; CPT 60200. Is that the appropriate code for excising a thyroid nodule, or should I use the unlisted thyroid procedure; CPT 60699? Thank you very much!

Hi Camille,

Thanks for your question.

CPT code 60200 is a correct choice to report for excision of suspicious thyroid nodule. Unlisted code is reported only when there is no specific CPT code for a particular procedure.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to write if you have any question.
