My doc did a free flap to the breast after mastectomy. The patient returned with thrombosis of the flap that could not be salvaged. It was removed and the mastectomy flaps were closed until the patient could reassess what type of reconstruction should be done next. I am thinking unlisted but maybe a complex closure?

Hi Denise, please send some more information of the procedure performed for more clarity, in order to find the most appropriate code for it. Thank you.

The patient had free flaps from the abdomen following mastectomy procedure. On follow up she was taken back to the OR for exploration of the flap and there was venous thrombosis of the entire flap and the previously placed vein graft. The flap was not salvageable so it was removed. The mastectomy flaps were then closed in layers and procedure was ended. The patient will return to primary plastic surgeon for discussion of future reconstruction.

As per documentation, unlisted procedure code should be appropriate in this case. Thank you.
