We are trying to find a CPT Code for a Thorascopic Esophageal Atresia Repair that was not completed because the surgeon was unable to bring proximal and distal ends together, sutures were placed leaving both ends under tension 12fr CT placed. this is a staged procedure and our surgeon will have to go back and complete the atresia repair.. My surgeon says this is a new procedure called Esophageal Elongation for Atresia Repair. Please help! thank you

As per the presented documentation, if the atresia is a minor atresia, then appropriate CPT code would be 32665.

 

Append modifier-58 (staged procedure) with the appropriate CPT code.

 

If the esophageal atresia is a congenital defect where the esopahgus and stomach are not at all communicating, then, use unlisted code (43289) as there is only code available for open, surgical procedure.; i.e., 43312.
