Patient's BCBS policy covers telemed, but when billing "98968", the claim got denied. Per BCBS, telemed is covered and to use "994x" codes, but when using "99444", it also gets denied. The session(s) were via telephone which took an hour. What other procedure codes there would be? 99443 is only for 30min but sessions are an hour.

99444 is not for telephonic conversation, it is for online medical evaluation. For telemed code use 99443.

If the interprofessional telephone/Internet assessment and management service occurs when the patient is not present or on-site, and the discussion time exceeds 30 minutes beyond the typical time of the appropriate E/M service performed, then the non-face-to-face prolonged service codes 9935899359 may be reported by the treating/requesting physician or other qualified health care professional.

98968 code is non-physician services. Please check with payor for nonphysician services paid or not by BCBS.

Hope that helps!
