Jamie Posted Thu 11th of April, 2019 11:34:01 AM
We have a patient who came in on 4/2/19 and received a Rabies Vaccine. (90471/90675). The provider also gave them another Vial of Rabies Vaccine (90675) on 4/2/19 for the patient can inject themselves at home 3 days later 4/5/19. In order to bill for this second vaccine is the appropriate date 4/2/19 as the patient was given this vial this day? or Would it be 4/5/19? Thanks !

Hello Jamie,

Thank you for your question.

As per the above provided documentation, patient received the Rabies vaccination on 4/2/19, therefore, CPT® 90471 (Immunization administration) and CPT® 90675 (Rabies vaccine) are appropriate codes.

Another vial of Rabies Vaccine given to the patient on 4/2/19, will not be reportable, since rabies vaccine cannot be self-administered. Rabies vaccine can be administered by trained health professionals only.
