Suboccipital craneictomy, duraplasty for posterior fossa decomperession

Mary ann Posted Fri 26th of April, 2013 20:18:03 PM

Pt. had a CVA resulting in mass effect and herniation. Would I use 61322 for this procedure? I wasn't sure since it was in the posterior fossa and there is no indication of site in the description of CPT code 61322.. I didn't know what other code would be appropriate.

Despite all your surgeon did, you'll probably report a single code for this procedure: 61322 (Craniectomy or craniotomy, decompressive, with or without duraplasty, for treatment of intracranial hypertension, without evacuation of associated intraparenchymal hematoma; without lobectomy), which includes the duraplasty.
