Submucosal injection question

Jennifer Posted Mon 08th of August, 2016 13:22:32 PM
Can a submucosal injection to lift a lesion or polyp be billed with a cold biopsy (45380) or snare polypectomy(45385) for the same lesion without considering it as an endoscopic mucosal resection?

When you are performing colonoscopy, flexible- there is separate code when sub-mucosal injection is used, i.e. CPT 45381. So, there are no CCI edits when billing 45385, Colonoscopy, flexible; with removal of tumor(s), polyp(s), or other lesion(s) by snare technique and 45381; Colonoscopy, flexible; with directed submucosal injection(s), any substance. You are able to bill both for the same polyp.
