How to code for EGD with stent removal which was previously placed ?
Plz help. Thanks in advance !

Look at 43247. A stent can be considered a foreign body and the dx would be 996.79.

EGD’s are being performed for stent removal and are being submitted for billing as foreign body removal, this is incorrect. As per (CCI), the CPT code 43247 should not be reported for routine removal of previously placed therapeutic devices. So if you will code like biopsy was done along with a stent removal, then the biopsy CPT 43239 would be the only code billed.
