Stent in the lower extremity to cover an aneurysm

Hwa Posted Wed 07th of January, 2015 14:43:56 PM

Patient has an aneurysm in the popliteal artery. A very common treatment is use of a covered stent graft to exclude the aneurysm. A coding reference I have says to use the LE revasc code 37226. However, the LCD for LE stenting does not cover 442.3 as a dx code for 37226. Is it better, then, to use 37236 or maybe even the code for embolization?

Code 37226 would be most appropriate for stent graft to exclude the popliteal artery aneurysm.

We have researched and found that some state's LCD's cover 37226 for Dx 442.3, Aneurysm of artery of lower extremity.

You should contact your contractor/payer enquiring why they do not cover 37226 for Dx 442.3.

Thanks !!
