My Physician states that he marked 20+ Locations on the left leg prior to Stab Phlebectomy. He then states he Performed Multiple Phlebectomies on the Left Leg. He does not state how many stabs were actually performed. Do I Code by how many he Marked?

Hi Michelle,

It will not be the correct way of billing Stab Phlebectomy by just the documentation of marked location on leg in record. However, the procedure does demand the marking of locations before a stab is performed. But we cannot presume that stab was performed on every mark without being mentioned in medical records, sometimes provider may discontinue the services inbetween because of any unprevailing circumstance. So we may enquire from our provider about the same before billing the code. Thank you.
