Patient has Spondylotic HNP's at C4-C5, C5-C6 and C6-C7 with severe foraminal stenosis. Doctor did anterior cervical discectomy at all levels with foraminotomies, osteophytes removed, and Cervical anterior and posterior spondylectomies. Anterior cervical fusion with implants and plate. I know the codes for the fusion and implants and plate but i have never coded for anterior and posterior spondylectomies. I have searched coding for spondylectomies but have come up with nothing. Please advise as to what codes I should use for these procedures.

Hi Diane,

CPT code 63081 should be used for spondylectomy (anterior corpectomy) performed through anterior approach. There is no appropriate CPT code for posterior spondylectomy, and hence unlisted code (CPT code 64999) should be used for spondylectomy performed through posterior approach.
