Speech delay

Catherine Posted Wed 20th of August, 2014 17:31:59 PM

Have a 2 year old patient speech delayed that came in to see if he had a hearing issue. Submitted claim with ICD9 code 315.39 because his hearing was normal. Insurance denied as they consider that code as mental health and he does not have mental health benefits. Is there any other ICD9 we could have used? Unfortunately I don't see a code for hearing test was normal.

Thank you for your question.

In this case, where there were no abnormal findings, V72.19 would be appropriate. Exam ears & hearing NEC/Other examination of ears and hearing (Includes: routine examination of specific system)
