Is it appropriate to bill for a Seton tightening, if the patient is within their global period for the placement of the Seton?
Please provide complete reasons for your response, per Coding Compliance guidelines, including resources.
Thank you. Kath

Usually coding guidelines are framed such, procedures are bundled with primary code when there is medical probability of any procedure during the post-op period. As per general guidelines coding for Seton tightening cannot be billed separately during global period, because it is included in the surgical package. There is necessity of Seton tightening for the recovery of patient during the global period i.e. why this is included in the starting only with the surgical package. So, bundled post-op visit/ follow-up visit cannot be billed during the postoperative period of the surgery that are related to recovery of the condition.
