if pt has uti with ecoli and bsi wit strep b and sepsis do I code BSI? I thought i was told by super coder if sepsis and bsi are used together you only use the sepsis. I believe this would be coded 041.02 038.42, 995.91, 599.0 or do i code 038.42 995.91 599.0 790.7 041.02? i guess im really confused about when to code BSI and when not to code BSI

BSI is septicemia, as per ICD index. So you code 038.x (choose "x" as per infective org. OR code 038.9 if org. unspecified) and then code sepsis (995.91). I would go with first choice: 041.02 038.42, 995.91, 599.0

Need not code BSI separately here since BSI w/ strep B + Sepsis is already coded as septicemia + sepsis.
