scar revision

Lynn Posted Mon 11th of April, 2016 09:09:20 AM
My doctor performed 58150 and 38770 and a scar revision. Scar revision was performed by separating the subcutaneous tissues from the fascia with Bovie above the fascial plane to allow improved abdominal wall closure. The fascia was then closed with #1 looped PDS in a modified Smead-Jones fashion. Subcutaneous layer was irrigated and the skin was closed with 4-0 Monocryl, 3-0 Vicryl deep dermal stitches. What cpt code would you use for the scar revision?

Hi Lynn, The CPT code ranges that can be used for scar revision to allow improved abdominal wall closure will be: Codes ranges for repair : 13100-13101, 12031-12037, 12001-12007 depending upon the repair type with modifier 59 if performed on different location. However, if this revision is performed on same site of procedures 58150 and 38770 then as per CCI edit they will not be separately paid.
