RT and LT Modifiers

Kim Posted Thu 18th of September, 2014 11:21:40 AM

When a selective right lower extremity and left lower extremity runoff via the right limb of the aortobifemoral bypass graft is performed please explain modifiers. Is is appropriate to code 36246 with RT and LT? Do the modifiers idenitfy the access point or the limb, so would we use only RT for access or RT and LT since it was performed on both limbs?

Thanks for your question.

No the modifier does not identify access point, but yes the modifier identify the limb.

If the procedure is performed on both limbs, the modifier RT and LT or modifier 50 can be used as per payer discretion.

Hope this helps.
