Hi,
Please find the answers below:
1: Yes 20680 is correct for removal of Stryker Medpor skull graft.
2: Use 97597 for the wound debridement; revision.
3: Code 62272 if the physician uses a needle to aspirate CSF.
4: Code 87070 for cultures taken.
Thanks

I thought that the physician couldn't charge for the cultures taken 87070; I thought the lab charges for that. Is that correct or can the physician charge?

I thought that the physician couldn't charge for the cultures taken 87070; I thought the lab charges for that. Is that correct or can the physician charge? - Also, if the physician aspirate CSF through the dura, would you code 61210 instead of 62272?

SuperCoder Answered Fri 27th of March, 2015 04:48:00 AM

Yes you are right, if lab would code for cultures 87070, then physician would not be reimbursed. CPT code 61210 is used for implanting ventricular catheter and not aspiration.

I'm showing that cpt code 20680 bundles with 97597; can you charge both of these codes together same sessions; same location?

SuperCoder Answered Mon 30th of March, 2015 05:58:57 AM

Yes 20680 is included in 97597 but, it may be billed with 59 modifier if the wound site is distinct.
