Resection using a suction (via the working channel)

Donna m Posted Thu 05th of February, 2015 19:59:49 PM

Patient had a polyp removal during Colonoscopy. Dr. used endo loop at base of polyp stalk and closed at the mucosal attachemnt prior to removal in order to prevent bleeding. Then he says resection and retrieval were complete using a suction (via the working channel). The suction and working channel statement has me confused. Should I code this as a snare, 45385? Or is this considered 45390? Something else?
Thanks for your help.

The technique endoscopic mucosal resection generally employs special suction-activated device. Hence, you should use code 45390, Colonoscopy, flexible; with endoscopic mucosal resection. Thanks !!
