REPEAT LUMPECTOMY 2 WEEKS FROM 1 SURGERY FOR INVOLVED MARGINS

Charlene Posted Tue 31st of May, 2016 15:08:49 PM
Would modifier 58 be appropriate for "more extensive than the original procedure" even though the same cpt will be used? What about mod 76 for repeat procedure by same Dr two weeks from original surgery?

Hi, I think the appropriate modifier in this scenario would be 58 (Staged or related procedure or service by the same physician during the postoperative period). Modifier 58 applies when the surgeon performs a -more extensive procedure- during the postoperative period, according to CPT guidelines. Hope this helps! Thanks.
