Repairing Fragile skin

Victoria Posted Fri 15th of July, 2016 15:31:07 PM
patient had a surgical procedure and after procedure was done the sterile drape was removed and part of the patient's skin came off with the drape since the patient is 91 and the skin is so fragile. Can the doctor charge to repair the skin?

Hi, The provider can charge for the same with an appropriate modifier.

Would modifier 59 be appropriate since it was done during the same surgery time?

Hi, As the repair is inclusive in the procedure and is done at the time of surgery, therefore cannot be separately reimbursed.
