The doctor is performing a total hip arthroplasty on a patient (CPT 27130). During the procedure the doc noticed that the abductors were chonically avulsed. There were abundant spurs and scar tissue on the insertion area of the medius and minimus. They were released of scar tissue and they were mobilized. Would this procedure be consider inclusive with the 27130 or would the CPT code 27036 work for the repair and reattachment of the muscles.

Thanks for your question.
CPT 27130 does not include the repair and reattachment of the muscles. Use CPT code 27030 For repair and reattachment of the muscles with appropriate modifier.

I do not think that the 27030 applies to the procedure that was done. There was not drainage or infection.
There were abundant spurs and scar tissue on the insertion area of the medius and minimus. The muscles were dissected and tagged with stay sutures. They were then released of scar tissue in the anterior and posterior surface and were mobilized.

I apology for typo error. The correct CPT is 27036, not 27030.
