repair of vag wall laceration after delivery?

Susan Posted Fri 10th of June, 2016 17:16:37 PM
Laceration was repaired after delivery and vaginal packing placed-which I am no t billing for. Later that night patient was bleeding through packing and returned to the OR for another repair. What cpt code would be appropriate for this procedure?

Hi, CPT code range 12001-12007, 12041- 12047 and 13131-13132 seems more appropriate for this scenario. CPT 12001-12007 Simple repair of superficial wounds of scalp, neck, axillae, external genitalia, trunk and/or extremities (including hands and feet); CPT 12041-12047, Repair, intermediate, wounds of neck, hands, feet and/or external genitalia and CPT 13131-13132, Repair, complex, forehead, cheeks, chin, mouth, neck, axillae, genitalia, hands and/or feet. Append modifier 78 with the appropriate CPT code as per the repair performed and documented in medical record.
