I need help with a CPT code for removal of the intervertebral synthetic cage at level L5-S1. The cage was removed due to pain. Posterior approach. No replacement cage was inserted. The spinal fixation device was not removed of loosened. The spacer was visualized then collapsed with hex head screwdriver and then removed.

There is 1 CPT code 22855, which can be used for Inter-vertebral synthetic cage removal through ANTERIOR APPROACH. But, there is no specific CPT code for Inter-vertebral synthetic cage through POSTERIOR APPROACH. In this case, you need to report the procedure with Unlisted CPT code 22899.
